Abstract
The optimality of chaos control is investigated. In the drive-response regime, the response systems for a class of chaotic systems are designed as certain nonlinear observers that lead to scalar transmission signals and linear error systems. Based on the quadratic optimal control theory for continuous dynamical systems, an optimal synchronization control scheme is established to maintain the least error with less control costs during the synchronizing process. In addition, a claim reported in Ref. [11] is shown to be invalid by two counterexamples.
