Abstract
Performance of transport control protocol (TCP) in wireless mesh networks (WMNs) has been a topic of intense research interest. The interest is aimed to provide high-speed TCP connectivity on the wireless mesh backbone that acts as an extension to the wired infrastructure of the Internet. As an effort to actualize this aim, we propose a framework incorporating orthogonal radio channels and novel mechanisms of handling TCP segments. The proposed framework serves as an encompassing solution to the several problems (for example, lack of differentiation between congestion and wireless losses) that degrade performance of TCP in multihop WMNs. The framework exacts only minor modifications to the existing TCP solely in the inchoate wireless mesh domain. We evaluate the propounded framework using extensive simulation experiments that corroborate significant improvement in the performance of TCP.
