Abstract :
The proposed Booth multiplier is based on the redundant binary signed digit (RBSD) number system. It uses our RBSD modified radix-8 encoding scheme to generate RBSD partial product rows without the need to generate hard multiples. It also performs sign extension on the partial product rows during the accumulation process. This multiplier generates its RBSD partial products based mostly on NAND instead of AND-OR gates. The partial products are accumulated using a redundant binary adder (RBA) tree. The RBSD result from this tree is converted into standard binary (SB) by means of a carry select adder that uses a redundant binary (RB) adder. This architecture results in a multiplier that has a regular layout, an appreciable area reduction and at least a 34.2% reduction in the energy delay product (EDP) compared to traditional tree and radix-4 multipliers
