Abstract
A one-dimensional numerical model of the aorta and aortic valve (AV) is described. The model solves the equations of motion using explicit finite differences. The dicrotic notch is reproduced coincidentally with AV closure. By changing the length of the aorta, it is shown that the dicrotic notch is the result of a reflected wave and is not caused by valve closure
