Abstract :
The ROSTELESAT multifunctional space telecommunication system (MSTS) is designed for establishing mobile and fixed satellite communication channels for digital information reception and transmission between the mobile and fixed users to provide public community, government and commercial organizations with services in global digital voice communication and data transmission in any geographical area of the world, including poorly populated, remote and hardly reached regions of Russia. Telephony, facsimile messages and data transmission are provided with rates from 1.2 up to 64 Kbit/s, along with the latest multimedia and computer services, including communication between computer networks of various levels. Similar information transmission could be done with up to 2048 Kbit/s standard rates; data in Earth remote sounding (investigation of natural resources, supervision over dynamic processes on the Earth surface and in the atmosphere etc.) with actual real-time data acquisition and processing
