Abstract :
The effect of 1/f noise on a free running oscillator signal is examined in this paper. Expressions for the accumulated jitter and for the near-carrier spectrum that depend on the observation time are presented. They are based on a random frequency modulation approach. In conjunction with the well-known effects of white noise, a comprehensive basis for the interpretation of the oscillator jitter and spectrum is given. Measurements support the presented relations
