Abstract :
A compact wideband planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) for 2.4/5 GHz wireless local area network (WLAN) applications is presented. Two orthogonal radiators are used instead of a planar structure to reduce the size of antenna. The wideband characteristic is achieved by generating additional resonant frequency through a grounded strip. The geometry parameters of the antenna are investigated to realize proper band and good matching. A wide impedance bandwidth from 2.4 to 2.48 and 4.4 to 5.9 GHz is obtained, covering all 2.4/5 GHz WLAN operation. Finally the position of proposed antenna on the ground is considered to realize broad beam width.
