Abstract :
Most of the conventional exercise apparatus use the iron or aluminum for weight lifting. Without assistance of professional trainer or qualified rehabilitation therapist, physical injury could be occurred when exercises or rehabilitation therapy improperly proceed. This paper presents a friendly windowing interface for an arm strength training machine based on the ARM controller, in such a way to reduce the occurrence of improper operation of exercise machine by real time monitoring. The system hardware consists of a LCD touch panel, universal asynchronous receiver and transmitter (UART) communication, ADC converter, Cortex-M3 controller, and a PMSM motor drive which is basically realized by a microcontroller for simulating the weight stack. The system software for windowing interface is developed under Cortex M3 development environment and written in C language. It is helpful to implant and expand the whole system to mobile phone in the future because most of the mobile telecommunication products are based on the ARM core structure. The firmware of motor drive is programmed based on the MPLAB integrated development environment tool by Microchip technology incorporate. Finally, a prototype of windowing interface arm strength training machine is realized and demonstrated. The experimental results show the feasibility and fidelity of the complete designed system.
