  • Abstract
Wireless networks will carry various multimedia applications such as voice, video and data in the future. In order to provide service quality for delay sensitive applications such as voice and video, it is necessary that mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) support quality of service (QoS) routing in terms of bandwidth and delay. Content-based communication is a competent candidate for such dynamic networks having limited resources. This paper presents a new content-based routing approach with use of ant colony optimization for MANETs, called CARMAN. This approach exploits the behavior of ant-like agents for route discovery process. CARMAN is a simple routing protocol with autonomous traffic management and topology changes adaptation. Simulation results show the improvement in network performance by applying this method.
