Abstract :
This paper presents how the new technologies and industry standards, such as CIM, CCAPI, object-oriented relational database, Java, multi-tiered architecture, multi-agent system and artificial intelligence, are applied in a modern EMS. The fast development of computer, communication network and database technologies, as well as the demands of the power market, make developing a new generation EMS necessary and possible. The attributes of the new EMS are scalability, database and user interface openness, flexibility and conformance to industry standards. In this paper, a multi-agent system based EMS architecture and a multi-tiered structure based EMS architecture are described in detail. Particularly, with the construction of power markets, EMS must be changed to fit a competitive environment. In order to satisfy the demands of calculation and data accesses in power markets, some EMS application software should be changed. The paper describes the relationship between EMS and power market technical support system and an efficient information exchange between two systems.
