Abstract :
Biomass is an effective solution for the depletion of fossil fuels and degradation of environment. In this study, some indicators were created for analyzing and evaluating the environmental benefits for biomass-fired power generation, which include that of CO2, SO2 and PM10. The results have been shown that the emission factors of biomass-fired power generation are far less than that of coal-fired system. CO2 emission reduction factor is about 2600 g/kg, SO2 emission reduction factor is between 11~14 g/kg, and that of PM10 is about 0.6 g/kg by biomass-fired power generation comparing with that of coal-fired system. Another, according to the "Eleventh Five" Plan of China, 5500 MW of coal-fired power units will be replaced by biomass-fired power units, then the annual emission reduction amounts of SO2, PM10 and CO2 may reach 2 times 105 ,4 times 107, 1.0 times 104 ton respectively. So, the environmental benefit of biomass-fired power generation is enormous.
