Abstract :
This paper analyzed the characteristics of Chinese water resources and developed a sustainable utilization evaluation system of water resources. Principal component analysis method was used to carry out the evaluation. The results show there is an obvious negative correlation between water resources endowment and its utilization efficiency, and a positive correlation between utilization efficiency of the water resources and economic development. When economy and population was consider as influence factors, the sustainable development status of water resources in China is different from the distribution of resources endowment. Besides less per-capita water resources, the low water utilization efficiency in the regions with abundant water is another element restricting water resources sustainable use. Furthermore, based on the idea of sustainable development and field survey, suggestions for improving the utilization efficiency of water resources were given.
