Abstract :
Image Quality Assessment plays a very important role in quantifying the quality of an image. Contrast and entropy are important factors which govern the overall characteristics of an image. A No-Reference contrast assessment index based on the concept of foreground and background is proposed in this paper. The proposed index assesses the degree of contrast manipulation (provided by an enhancement algorithm) by considering the difference in the average gray level values in its foreground to that of background. The degree of randomness is evaluated by the difference of entropy in an image and entropy in background. Simulation results illustrate the precision and efficiency of the proposed index in comparison to other contrast evaluation methods proposed in literature.
