Abstract :
As part of South China interconnected AC/DC system the Gui-Guang HVDC system will transmit 3000 MW from Anshun station in Guizhou province in west-south China over 936 km to the Zhaoqing station in Guangdong province. Pole 1 of the ±500 kV DC transmission scheme is scheduled to operate at the end of 2004 whereas pole 2 is supposed to follow in 2005. Because of new lines in Guizhou province synchronising the Guizhou zone with the Yunan zone the new Gui-Guang HVDC scheme will operate parallel to the existing Tian-Guang HVDC scheme of 1800 MW. The paper deals with the performance criteria and design studies of the Gui-Guang HVDC transmission system. Furthermore it highlights major technical features and main components of the project including state of the art light triggered thyristors.
