Various issues involved in software engineering certification and continuous education for software engineering professionals are discussed. The following specific questions are tackled: what kind of certification (if any) is appropriate for software engineering professionals? What kinds of programme are appropriate for maintaining continuously up to date software engineering professionals? Are we simply aiming at a closed shop?
