Abstract
In this paper, we have tried to establish relationship between percentage energy consumption and hop number for an equidistantly and linearly deployed WSN. Calculation of critical number of hops, after which no further significant energy saving can be achieved due to saturation of transmission power, has been carried out. Role of transmission power in total energy consumption considering sleep mode has been shown by comparing results obtained from mathematical analysis and simulation. Also, effect of increasing hop number on network lifetime has been presented. Optimum number of hops, for which total energy consumption is minimum for equidistantly and linearly deployed WSN without sleep mode, has been derived and results are compared with simulation results.
