Abstract :
Generators with a long time delay in output power response, such as large-capacity coal-fired generators, have seldom been used for load frequency control (LFC) in Japan. The electric power supply mix at some electric power companies is likely to be accompanied by a lack of capacity to regulate system frequency in the near future. The authors of this paper therefore have proposed a new LFC logic to utilize LFC generators with a long time delay. In this paper, the proposed LFC for a new automatic generation control scheme is applied to a practical supply/demand control simulation model of an actual power system. Dynamic simulations are performed and the simulation results of the current LFC and the proposed LFC are compared. The results show that the proposed LFC can assign large trend components of area control error to the generators with a long time delay. This indicates that large-capacity coal-fired generators could be used for the future LFC.
