  • Abstract
A SPICE model of a two-phase, permanent magnet, step-motor is presented by the authors. It is capable of predicting, with reasonable accuracy, the electrical and electromechanical dynamics associated with a step-motor system. Central to the modeling process is the use of reference-frame theory to eliminate the time-varying inductances associated with the stator voltage equations, and the SPICE realization of a voltage-control oscillator as a means of synthesizing the sine cosine functions. The resulting step-motor model is shown to be able to predict both single-step and fixed-stepping-rate failure modes of a typical step-motor system
