Abstract :
Nowadays sludge bulking is still a serious problem that can disturb the daily operation of activated sludge process in the sewage plants. In this paper, the study on controlling sludge bulking by adding kaolin was introduced. The results showed that adding of the kaolin can control sludge bulking effectively and rapidly. When the dosing quantity of kaolin was 1000 mg/L, the SVI decreased from 330 ml/g to 136 ml/g after operation of only four periods. In the meantime, there was little effect on the quality of effluent.
