Abstract :
The use of the series resonant converter, specifically the zero-current-switching type, for satellite component level power converter needs are explored. In an application such as this, each component is provided with conditioned power by a local DC/DC converter. These converters are required to operate from a low unregulated input bus such as 24 V to 38 V, to maintain primary and secondary isolation, to provide multiple outputs, and to sustain high-efficiency operation. Typical output power levels are in the 10 W and 50 W range. Various topologies are investigated and the steady-state analysis of the selected configuration, the clamped series-resonant converter, is presented along with a small-signal analysis of the selected configuration, the clamped series-resonant converter, is presented along with a small-signal analysis of the control loop. Experimental results for a 500 kHz, 12 W power converter are also presented, and some of the problems encountered during the design and breadboard phase are discussed
