Abstract :
Power electronics achieves forward and backward compatibility in electrical domain. Arc welding process needs lateral compatibility for ease of use, utility etc. It needs coherent effort of technique and technology. Efficient arc welding process needs fine and fast dynamic control of energy flow for efficiency, weld quality, productivity, reduced fume generation rate etc. Any mismatch in compatibility between power source and method generates improper energy transfer. High frequency welding inverters meet characteristic requirements of weld gap dynamics posed by efficient technique. This article brings the concept of Goodness Factor of equipment as measure of compatibility between energy resources and process output (welding joint). The paper analyzes that concept of maximizing Goodness Factor is synonymous with diversity reduction along with it achieves optimal process performance.
