  • Abstract
The primary function of a electric power system is to supply customers, with electrical energy as economically as possible and with an acceptable degree of reliability. Therefore fast and accurate power system reliability assessment Techniques is important. This paper presents an Improved Particle Swarm Optimization based method for state sampling of composite power system. In this method, Particle Swarm Optimization is used as a search tool to truncate the probability state space and to track the most probable failure states. PSO stores system states, in which there is fault state, in an array. Then sampled states are used to assessment of Power Composite System Annualized Reliability Indices. The proposed method has been tested on the IEEE RTS-79 using booth GA and improved PSO. Then comparative study between the behaviour of GA and PSO is done.
