Abstract :
The electromagnetic modeling of large finite arrays as well as the scattering by finite periodic structures is an important topic for a large variety of engineering applications. A new method for the analysis of large periodic arrays, referred to as truncated Floquet wave full-wave (T(FW)/sup 2/), has been proposed. This method is based on the solution of an appropriate integral equation in which the unknown function is the difference between the exact current distribution of the finite array and that of the infinite array, that realizes the periodic continuation of the actual one. In phased array antennas, the global phase tapering is typically linear but the global amplitude is not necessarily uniform. In this paper, the T(FW)/sup 2/ analysis is generalized to large arrays with a tapered amplitude excitation. Numerical results are shown in order to demonstrate the extreme accuracy and the numerical efficiency of the presented technique.
