Abstract :
In this paper, to reduce error propagation we propose a robust video transcoder using multiple description (MD) codes into motion vector (MV) coding. For a small number of overhead bits, only MV data and low-frequency coefficient data of discrete cosine transform (DCT) are transcoded by an MD scalar quantizer (MDSQ) function which maps the single description codes into MD codes. In packet loss environments, simulation results with various test sequences show that the proposed method is effective for sequences with a large amount of motion and residual data.
