Abstract :
Adaptive diversity combining techniques aim to provide the desired performance by adaptively utilizing the resources of wireless communication systems. These schemes offers different tradeoffs between performance and power consumption. In this paper we present a new adaptive combining scheme that takes advantage of the existing combiner structure and transits directly to the appropriate combining mode for subsequent data reception. We carry out a thorough performance and complexity analysis on the proposed scheme based on a properly developed Markov model. Through numerical examples, we show the proposed scheme offers a better tradeoff of performance versus complexity than conventional OT-MRC.
