Abstract
This paper describes satellite antenna research in Europe but of necessity has to be selective as there are at least 50 primary organisations directly involved in the field. The research and development programmes and the manufacture of satellite systems in Europe is supported by, among others, The European Space agency (ESA), EUTELSAT, INTELSAT, INMARSAT, national agencies and research councils together with industrial contracts from within and outside Europe. Although the views expressed in this paper are European, many aspects of the satellite antenna research reported may be found in work conducted in North America and in the countries of the Pacific rim
