Abstract :
When measuring the performance of MPEG-4 transmission in IEEE 802.15.3 WPAN, the drop scheme used can have a considerable influence on Mean Propagation Time, Job Failure Rate and composite metrics. Active Queue Management (AQM) is an effective method to provide an early notification of network congestion by pro-actively dropping or marking packets. In this paper, we analyze the performance of MPEG-4 transmission in 802.15.3 WPAN with different queue management mechanisms such as Drop-tail, RED and WRED in order to achieve a high-quality video transmission of MPEG-4 stream. Simulation results show that the drop-tail, RED, WRED dropping scheme would be applied in different conditions for different user requirements such as Mean Propagation Time, Job Failure Rate and Composite metrics.
