Abstract :
This paper extends the previous results to complete the analysis of air-to-air message-overlap statistics using a graphical method. The extension takes into account, critical factors such as radio frequency propagation and receiver characteristics to provide better estimates of the message-overlap statistics. An aviation communications system operating in a high-density traffic environment is used for the analysis. It is shown that the statistical Poisson distribution still provides a good fit for the results. The cumulative message-overlap statistics is found to provide useful information regarding the multi-message decoding capability of a special type of receiver as an approach to improve the system performance.
