Abstract :
This paper presents a novel and systematic design procedure for the control of aircraft using nonlinear inverse dynamics based control techniques. Use of the methodology for a combat aircraft leads to the development of a flight control system which satisfies handling qualities requirements and comprises mission-defined control modes for active control of the aircraft using spoilers. Detailed derivations of the inverse dynamics of the aircraft are given. The concept of the principal controller, by which other control modes can easily be achieved, is introduced
