Abstract :
In this paper, aperture field distributions and radiation patterns of hollow dielectric wall diagonal horn antennas are studied theoretically and experimentally at spot frequency 9.418 GHz. The theoretical near field distributions at the aperture and the four side surfaces of a horn under study for TE to x and TE to y modes are obtained by solving the Helmholtzpsilas equation using the separation of variable techniques and applying proper boundary conditions. The expressions for the near-field components of the horn under study are used to obtain the expression for radiation pattern from Kirchoffpsilas diffraction formula. The theoretical aperture field distributions obtained for the H11 x and H11 y modes and radiation patterns obtained for two antennas of wall thickness 0.32 cm and dielectric constants 2.56 and 3.03 are compared with the corresponding experimental ones and these are found in good agreement.
