Abstract :
This paper presents a novel approach for fusion of CT & MR images based on wavelet transform. The images to be fused are firstly decomposed with the wavelet transform. Then, by considering the characteristics of the CT & MR images, the coefficients of the low frequency band is performed with a maximum-selection (MS) rule, and the coefficients of the high frequency bands is convolved with a Laplacian operator followed by the MS rule. Finally, the fused image is reconstructed by using the inverse wavelet transform with the combined wavelet coefficients. The performance of our method is compared with some existing fusion approaches. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is practical and effective.
