Abstract
This paper presents a study of the accuracy and suitability of RSSI measurements for triggering inter-band handovers (IBHOs) in a WCDMA system with additional downlink carrier on another frequency band. Large frequency separation is assumed between the frequencies of the downlink bands. The study is conducted with dynamic system simulator. The results of the simulations show that RSSI measurements are sufficient for determining the coverage area borders and can thus be used as a basis for the inter-band handover decisions.
