Abstract
The performance and characteristics of inverters and AC loads for remote and stand-alone photovoltaic applications were evaluated. The results of these evaluations are summarized. The compatibility and performance of the inverters and the loads are presented with emphasis on total system efficiency and performance. The results show a critical need for minimum inverter specifications, categorizations of inverters, and guidelines for selection and use in various stand-alone applications. Techniques for efficiency measurements and evaluation of the AC load performance are discussed. Recommended specification guidelines and inverter categorizations are also discussed.
