  • Abstract
Extensive research work has been done to improve the performance of micro-mobility management schemes on handling fast moving mobile hosts within a local administrative domain. However, most of previous work is focused on reducing the location update cost and handoff latency, without considering any integrated form of quality of service (QoS). With the advancement of wireless access technologies and emergence of numerous multimedia applications over Internet, mobile users require not only the seamless mobility support but certain level of QoS guarantee. Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) protocol has been developed as the solution to IP quality of service, gigabit forwarding, network scaling, and traffic engineering in Internet core network. Motivated by the advanced characteristics of MPLS technology, in this paper, we propose a MPLS-enabled micro-mobility management protocol which aims to enhance the end-to-end QoS provisioning and traffic engineering capabilities while dealing with intra-domain movement in all-IP future generation wireless networks.
