Abstract
There has been an effort to reduce the number of sensor elements in smart antennas used to estimate the direction of arrival in multipath environment. This paper proposes use of the DOA estimation based on two stages of detection: a first stage for discriminating uncorrelated signals, and a second stage for resolving the directions of arrival of correlated signals using covariance differencing and iterative spatial smoothing using forward/backward spatial smoothing.
