  • Abstract
In order to investigate the mechanism of heavy metal removal by the wastewater treatment plant, the author picked a series of urban wastewater in the Xi´an third WWTP. The goal of this research is to determine the kinetics and partition aspects of the heavy metal transportation. Three different type of metals such as Cu, Zn, Mn were selected in the kinetic experiment. The result is that dissolved organic matter in wastewater treatment system has an important role in the uptake of heavy metals by aerobically digested sludge. The dissolved manganese, zinc and copper removal efficiency in the sand chamber are 8.3%, 17.9 and 17.4%, respectively. The highest removal efficiency are in the secondary settler, as 39.3, 45.6 and 71.2% for manganese, zinc and copper.
