Abstract
The paper deals with a fuzzy control approach to municipal activated sludge waste water plants. Especially, the problem of an advanced intermittent aeration enabling efficient nitrification and denitrification cycles of the process within the same tank is tackled with the help of fuzzy control. Investigations are based upon integral modelling an example plant including its control structure, and simulating different strategies for the plant operation under different situations of loads and different concepts of control. The local fuzzy controller studied is an important part within the framework of a flexible quality control system
