Abstract
A description is given of computer simulation and a mathematical model of the embedded operations channel (EOC) protocol which evaluates protocol performance. The simulated EOC acknowledgement times match the theoretical model to within 0.4% for bit error rates (BER) between 10 -8 and 10-3. The simulation results show that the EOC performs with negligible degradation during valid digital subscriber line (DSL) service (BER<10-3). It falls within the 100 ms EOC maximum time target during DSL outages (BER approximately 10-2 )
