Abstract :
At the same time as many governments and health organizations are moving to home nursing care to reduce the costs and space associated with caring for ambulatory chronic patients or providing simple extended medical treatment through delivery of care in the community and not in acute or long-term care facilities, there is a late shift to adopting more information technology in the provision of health services. The community nurses who provide the in-home care are inadequately equipped to maintain and access their components of the electronic systems while caring for the patients outside traditional institutions. The current trials and plans are surveyed, and the work of community nurses is investigated in the framework of mobile worker support. The apparent opportunities and challenges are presented and a few topics for future research are reported.
