Abstract
In France it is now possible to operate a profitable telematics information-provider business as a result of massive investments by the French telecommunications authority, France Telecom. This PTT has implemented a large-scale industrial and marketing policy to make telematics a mass-market consumer product with increasingly widespread use. An outline is presented of the technical and logistical infrastructure for telematics deployed in France. A description is also given of the information-providing business
