Abstract
The authors define a generic OS/OS (OS=operating system) interface that will provide the flexibility to realign work flows within installation and maintenance operations as well as between OSs that are deployed in that environment. At the same time, local exchange carriers will be able to take full advantage of their embedded base of systems and allow the introduction of new OSs. This can be accomplished by providing the user-customisable features incorporated in this OS/OS interface design. The authors discuss its advantages over earlier interfaces and describe the interface architecture and the functions supported by the interface
