Abstract :
The overlay of a frequency diversity spread spectrum system (FDSS) on the GSM system is studied. The worst-case condition is considered for the downlink. The downlink capacity of both systems is studied using a model of 36 cells. The performance of the GSM and FDSS users is investigated. An original GSM system with 48 channel/cell can be substituted by a mixed system, which has a GSM system capacity of 48 users/cell and an FDSS system capacity of 116 users/cell when each cell has 6 sectors.
