The paper reviews the progress made since privatisation in the development and implementation of a complex set of related control and information systems. Specific examples are drawn from the advanced water treatment programme, Thames Water Ring Main, monitoring and control of the water distribution system, sewerage modelling and sewage treatment works automation. Brief reference is made to strategic planning and cost/benefit analysis
