Abstract :
In this work, we investigate service differentiation between voice and data traffic in the UMTS terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN) where IP is used as a transport technology. The specificity of this context is that both types of traffic shall be transported in a real-time fashion as they need to meet strict delay bounds, as low as 5 ms for voice. Our results, carried out analytically and validated on a test-bed implementing the UTRAN´s transport functionalities, demonstrate that weighted round robin (WRR) guarantees the QoS requirements under real-time transport while achieving a good link utilization.
