Abstract
In this contribution we propose design of a Micro strip patch antenna for L-Band SAR applications. The system cost in smart antennas increase due to requirement of powerful Digital Signal Processors for adaptive and computationally intensive beam forming in every separate element chain of Smart-antenna transceiver array. The smart antennas with reasonably higher gains are needed as we have to keep N number of elements spaced half wave length (lambda/2) i.e. for 1 GHz elements should be 15 cm apart. If there are 10 elements in an array it will have minimum size of more than 1.5 meters. If operating at higher frequencies this space requirement will be 0.75 meters (2 GHz), 0.25 meters (6 GHz), 0.125 meters (12 GHz) and 0.0625 meters (24 GHz).
