Abstract
This paper specifies a mechanism for mobile nodes of an IPv6 site to continue utilizing mobile IPv6 when they roam into IPv4 domains. The mechanism is based on mobile IPv6 and mobile IPv4 glued together by IPv4 encapsulation for routing IPv6 packets between the mobile nodes and their mobile IPv6 home agents. To support the mechanism specified in this draft, the mobile nodes must be dual stack capable, and in particular mobile JPv4 capable with some of the border routers of the IPv6 site acting as their mobile IPv4 home agent(s). In addition, the mobile nodes must not utilize mobile IPv6 route optimization when in IPv4 domains. The IPv6 site does not need to run the 6 to 4 protocol, however.
