Abstract :
Summary form only given. The characteristics of the uniplanar feed configuration to the rectangular dielectric resonator antenna based on the coplanar waveguide would be discussed. A comparative performance of the inductive, capacitive and the square loop feeds based on the coplanar waveguide would be addressed. It is observed that the capacitive feed to the antenna exhibits dual resonance with comparable radiation characteristics. Also, the radiation performance of the antenna with reference to its cross-polarization is strongly influenced by the CPW feed type. An attractive feature of the square loop feed is its considerably small real estate requirements compared with other feeds, making it possible to design it on low-permittivity substrates with enhanced coupling to the antenna and reduced surface wave loss. The H-plane crosspol characteristics of the square loop feed is also much better due to the magnetic coupling to the resonant mode of the antenna. Finally, the influence of electromagnetic band gap structures in improving the front-to-back ratio of the antenna would be addressed.
