  • Abstract
Although session initiation protocol (SIP) is considered to be the mobility support protocol for next generation multimedia communications, it still has several difficulties in completely substituting conventional Mobile IP. When both Mobile IPv6 and SIP are adopted for a mobile node in an IPv6 based network, there is severe signaling overhead due to a redundant registration procedure. Therefore, we propose a new mobility management scheme that integrates the signaling procedure of Mobile IPv6 and SIP. Performance comparisons are made between our integration method and the previous method in which separate registrations for the Mobile IPv6 and SIP are performed without integration. Numerical results show that the proposed method efficiently reduces the delay time related to location registration and handoff.
