Abstract :
The Variable Message Signs (VMS) in Beijing were introduced. After literature review, the objectives of this work were put forward. Reaction time was chosen to quantify the limit of IO, and DMDX was chosen as the tool of simulation experiment. Fifteen-person experimental group took part in this experiment which tested the reaction times of 10 typical VMS in Beijing. The limit of IO of VMS was 2494.54ms. The factors of IO were sections number and direction of VMS. In the end, some suggestions were made to improve the layout of VMS.
