Abstract :
Summary form only given. Most existing, emerging and proposed industrial, scientific and medical applications of microwave energy are briefly discussed. Advantages in using microwaves in above applications are given. The proposed use of microwave technology as a clean and ecofriendly technology when used for transportation of solar energy from a geostationary satellite to earth, and detoxification of soil is also discussed. The biological effects of microwaves on human beings and the use of microwave hyperthermia as an adjunct therapy, for the treatment of cancer, along with chemotherapy and radiotherapy are given. In the end, the problems in using the ISM band for emerging wireless communication services such as WLAN, Bluetooth and others isISM band discussed.
